Career Directions

Career Directions is a unique employment program that works in partnership to serve individuals who face barriers to employment. Funded by the Robin Hood Foundation, the program was created in 2011 to provide services to individuals referred by a select group of partner organizations. These organizations cater to the basic needs of low-income and under-served individuals including housing, food, healthcare and legal services. The program allows each partner organization to excel in what they do best while addressing a broad range of needs in an efficient manner.

Career Directions works with a uniquely diverse group of NYC residents. With representation from more than 100 countries and across all racial, religious, educational and cultural backgrounds — individuals in Career Directions receive intensive career readiness training to best prepare them to meet the needs of employers. Participants work with Career Advisors to develop career plans and engage in targeted workshops and coaching appointments to move them toward their goals. In recent years, financial education, has been incorporated into the program model, linking financial security strategies to employment services.

Employer Engagement

An essential component of the Career Directions program are the relationships built with employers hiring Career Directions participants. In 2015, more than 200 employers hired our participants, including Mt. Sinai Health Systems, Eataly, Managed by Q, Archcare, Dig Inn, The New Yorker Hotel, and Zerve. By understanding the needs of employers, Madison Strategies Group is able to prepare participants for success on the job.
