MSG Wins Financial Coaching Grant Extension!

In April 2016, Madison Strategies was excited to announce that we were selected to partner with The Financial Clinic as a recipient of their first-year WorkBoostNYC grant, receiving capacity-building services from The Financial Clinic and a financial coach, Erica Mancinas, on-site at MSG every Wednesday.

Since then, Madison Strategies has made monumental strides in embedding financial  literacy into our everyday work, incorporating conversations about financial goals into our intake and orientation processes; providing light-touch coaching utilizing The Financial Clinic’s Change Machine financial coaching platform and resources; and updating our Career Readiness Training to include a financial education piece aimed at dismantling myths about credit and breaking down steps candidates can take during their job search to become more financially fit.

We are thrilled to announce that we have been chosen to continue on into the second year of WorkBoostNYC, based on how well we implemented this work in cohort one, as well as the potential to expand our efforts even more over the coming months. This means that individuals who come to Madison Strategies from our amazing referral partners– New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG), West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH), Coalition for the Homeless (CFTH), Footsteps, and Center for Urban Community Services— can continue to receive these coaching services.

We are also excited to share the below video of our Program Director, Alex Holt, in conversation with The Financial Clinic’s Director of Services, Stefan Hench, with advice on how other workforce development and social service organizations can implement financial security strategies into their unique programs. “The key is to find ways to implement [financial security strategies] that are aligned with the culture of your organization,” Alex says. And with the Financial Clinic’s support, that is exactly what MSG has done!

Workforce development and financial literacy are inextricably linked, and our candidates now have even more access to resources that can assist them in their economic mobility. Thank you to Erica and the Financial Clinic team; we are excited to be continuing this partnership!
