  • Direct Support Professional (DSP) Program
    The Direct Support Professional training prepares students to assist individuals with intellectual disabilities to become independent and productive. You will also be trained to assist the developmentally disabled to raise their self-esteem. Students obtain their certifications for Direct Support (Immersion), Strategies for Crisis Intervention & Prevention - Revised (SCIP-R), Authorized Medication Administration Personnel (AMAP), Fire Safety & Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation & First Aid (CPR/First Aid). Job readiness classes are also included to assist students in preparation for job search and entry to the related workplace. The DSP program is generally 7 to 8 weeks Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Required TABE Score for Reading - 7. Required TABE Score for Math - 5.5.   • Master Barber (MB) Program
    The Master Barber Program is a 500-hour program including an approved HIV course to prepare adult students for the official New York State Licensing Master Barber Exam. Instructions include theory and practice in the following courses: Barbering orientation, Safety and Health, Bacteriology, Decontamination & Infection Control, Properties  and Disorders of the Skin, Scalp, and Hair, Shampoos, Rinses, Conditioners and Treatments, Hair Cutting and Shaping, Hair Styling, Hair Coloring, Artificial Hair Procedures, Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry as Applied to Barbering, and Professional Requirements. The program also includes modules to assist the students in signing up for the official state licensing practical exam, job placement assistance and how to start their own businesses. The MB program is generally 20 weeks, Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Required TABE Score for Reading - 8.5. Required TABE Score for Math - 7.   • Security Guard Registration (SRT)
    The Security Guard Registration is a five-day program that leads to certification as a New York State Registered Security Guard. This certification includes the 8-Hour Pre-Assignment Training, 16-Hour Training, Fire Guard training and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation & First Aid (CPR/First Aid). Students who complete this course are eligible to apply for the official NYS Security Guard license. The program also includes a resume, interview preparation, and job placement. The SRT program is generally 1 week, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Required TABE Score for Reading - 6.5. Register in person and visit the website for more information. Intensive therapeutic reentry support supplemented by case management, job readiness, and training referrals to adult individuals released from incarceration. Anger management training and substance abuse prevention programming—satisfying parole requirements as per conditions of release—are offered in the evenings at five New York City sites, allowing participants to begin taking steps toward finding employment, enrolling in education, or participating in job-skills training during the daytime. Arches is a group mentoring program that helps justice-involved young adults ages 16-24 transform the attitudes and behaviors that led to their criminal activity. Arches is designed to help participants get out of the criminal justice system by strengthening their attachment to education, work, and community. ARCHES participants receive educational enhancement opportunities, job readiness skills, hot meals, trips, one-on-one mentoring, and earn up to $800 in stipends over the course of 6 months. The Young Adult Internship Program (YAIP) is a 14-week internship program for job-ready young adults aged 16-24 who are disconnected from both education and employment. Participants can earn $2,800 during the 14 weeks of paid orientation, training, and work, which is then followed by 9 months of follow-up services. Must not be currently employed, must not be currently in school, must live in Community Districts 1-6, and must be able to pass a 6th-grade level reading test. Required Age: 16-24

This program is for young people ages 16-24 who want to gain job and leadership skills, whether they are in or out of school. With a coaching program and the partnership of major businesses (like Gap, Old Navy, and Banana Republic), you’ll be setting yourself up for success. Being part of This Way Ahead will require participation in regular workshops led by both Door coaches and employees from some of our partner companies. You’ll learn about possible careers and work on the skills you need for a future job. It entails a 4-week pre-training and a 6-week boot camp. Those young people who successfully complete the training will have the opportunity to interview for a PAID 10-week internship at Gap, Old Navy, and Banana Republic stores. You’ll also get access to numerous supportive services, modest stipends, and additional internship opportunities. This Way Ahead training runs in two sessions: March to June and June to October. Partnering with one of the largest cemeteries in New York City, this program provides ten weeks of skills training and a paid internship as a mason doing repair and restoration work at the Woodlawn Cemetery. CAMBA is licensed by the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services to provide certification and training in the security field. Our NY State and Homeland Security-certified instructor has 10 years of teaching experience, including six years at the NYPD Police Academy. The curriculum includes such topics as the role of the security officer, customer service, effective communication, crime prevention, report writing, emergency response, and terrorism awareness. CAMBA provides double the required training hours because we’ve learned that students need more time with the curriculum and that hands-on assistance with the licensing paperwork means more people reach their employment goals. Upon successful completion of the Security Officer Training, CAMBA clients receive their 8-hour and 16-hour security guard certificates. High School Diploma or Equivalent Required. This is a full-time commitment for a one-year fellowship, and fellows are paid a livable wage to work on the Drive Change food truck, Snowday. We provide refugees with culinary training, ESL classes and interview preparation. We set them up for successful employment in an industry in which their cultural heritage and cuisine can be celebrated. What’s more, we provide a community in which they can build supportive relationships. Wiltshire Employment Center (the EC) helps businesses in and around the Yard to hire and retain their workforce and provides local residents access to high-quality job opportunities. Partnering closely with employers, the EC's support varies from filling single job openings to working with employers to develop larger pipelines when they are undergoing major growth. In some cases, the EC also works with employers to craft pre- and on-the-job training programs for incoming applicants and employees. After identifying open job opportunities, the EC team identifies, screens, and places qualified job seekers into these open roles. Additionally, the EC also offers internship programs for college-bound and college-attending students. This provides students the first step in launching their career at the Yard and offers additional capacity to our employer partners. Get real work experience while earning $3,900 in 12 weeks! This 12-week program includes three weeks of job training classes followed by an 11-week paid internship. Internships are available at large corporations, small businesses, nonprofits, and government offices. Participants have the opportunity to earn their National Retail Federation Customer Service Certification and their Microsoft Office Specialist Certification. Classes run Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Age Requirement: 17-24

Every year, 3,000 individuals benefit from Urban Upbound’s Youth Career Pathways program, which consists of YouthPathways, Exploration in Careers, and College Access. Aligned with the City’s Career Pathways framework, YouthPathways, and Exploration in Careers provides unemployed, underemployed, and out-of-school youth ages 18-24 with training, tools, and resources that help them enter NYC’s fastest growing sectors of Construction, Hospitality, Technology, and Retail. College Access provides college and career preparatory services to high school age youth, including year-round mentoring, SAT and college preparation, financial aid counseling, career readiness, and placement into summer internships. Age Requirement: 18-24
