Career Connections

Providing a focused and structured training program on Rikers Island
Launched in 2012, Career Connections works directly with individuals incarcerated on Rikers Island – men and women – to develop the personal and professional skills necessary for finding full-time employment upon their release. MSG works in partnership with the Center for Urban Community Services (CUCS) to identify and recruit inmates into the program through on-site orientation sessions held on Rikers Island.

Meeting individuals where they are and building toward a future
After release from Rikers Island, participants complete a week-long personal development workshop that is tailored to address the issues faced by individuals with a criminal background looking for work. Career Advisors work closely with participants to develop the skills and confidence to interview successfully, and account managers cultivate relationships with employers to match individuals with open positions.

Staying engaged and working with men and women committed to a fresh start
MSG focuses on building and maintaining a strong relationship with each participant, and reinforcing the skills and techniques introduced during the program to support their continued career development after incarceration.
