Tulsa Community WorkAdvance
Tulsa Community WorkAdvance (TCW) helps Tulsa residents build stable and productive lives through training scholarships, career coaching, and professional development experiences while strengthening the local economy by providing employers with a pipeline of skilled workers.
TCW is a sector-based career advancement program in Tulsa, Oklahoma that provides unemployed and under-employed individuals with high-quality training, job placement and advancement services that are designed to respond to the needs of the city’s manufacturing, transportation, aerospace, and healthcare sectors. TCW is one of four evidence-based initiatives that was implemented by the Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO) through the Social Innovation Fund (SIF), which is seeking to build a national body of evidence in support of promising programs.
The WorkAdvance model has been proven to work through a random control trial study, which showed that TCW participants are more likely to: earn more money, enroll and complete training, find employment in the targeted sector, have higher job satisfaction, and secure a job that offers benefits and opportunities for advancement.
Customers who enter the program can take advantage of customized, short-term sector-specific training programs. Training classes include CNC Machining, Diesel Maintenance Technician, Welding, Shipping, Receiving and Warehousing as well as Phlebotomy, Dental Assistant, and more.
Building partnerships in the community
Tulsa Community WorkAdvance works with many employers that are focused on providing high wage jobs to TCW graduates that offer benefits and advancement opportunities. TCW partners with education providers and community organizations that support customers throughout the program. These include CAP Tulsa, Goodwill Industries of Tulsa, Workforce Tulsa, and community and faith-based organizations.
TCW was started through a Social Innovation Fund grant through the Center for Economic Opportunity and the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City. TCW is funded by federal grants, private foundations and local Tulsa philanthropy.
