Transportation Connections WorkAdvance (TCW), a non-profit organization in downtown Tulsa, is helping unemployed and underemployed Tulsa residents gain access to quality jobs in the transportation industry and then advance in those jobs. TCW provides Tulsa residents with career advancement training, job placement services and specific transportation-related scholarships to local education providers all at no cost. The project meets local business needs by creating a pipeline of qualified pre-screened workers.
Through this grant, full scholarships are being given to students to attend Tulsa Technology Center, 4M Welding, Central Tech and Tulsa Community College. Current training opportunities include: welding, CNC machining, diesel mechanic, commercial driver’s license class A, commercial driver’s license class A refresher course, and commercial driver’s license class B.
Transportation Connections WorkAdvance is currently recruiting applicants for its next training classes which will begin in summer 2013. The last day to apply for training is June 24, 2013. Tulsans can apply for the program by calling (918) 442-2200 or visiting the TCW office any Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. to attend orientation. TCW is located at 907 S. The project is part of a national multi-city effort to assess the effectiveness of this type of job training initiative and inform public policy. Funding is provided though the federal Social Innovation Fund by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Center for Economic Opportunity, the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, George Kaiser Family Foundation and Tulsa Community Foundation.
